What does it mean to go “to forte and beyond”?
“Forte” is a musical instruction: strong, full, confident.
“And beyond” is the invitation—to go further. Beyond the score. Beyond tradition. Beyond the expected.
To Forte and Beyond is about that journey—developing the craft, confidence, curiosity, and perspective to go beyond the notes on the page.
Meet Don Scott
Don Scott Carpenter is a conductor, educator, composer, organist, and arts leader whose career has included professional, community, educational, and sacred music-making. His work has taken him from the podium and rehearsal room to organizational leadership, teaching, programming, commissioning, and the development of new musical projects.
At the center of that work is a belief that strong musicianship is only the beginning. Technique, preparation, curiosity, communication, and leadership all contribute to the way musicians find their own artistic voice and create meaningful experiences for others.
Don Scott created To Forte and Beyond as a place to bring those ideas together through teaching, coaching, and conversation. Whether working individually with a singer, helping a conductor solve a rehearsal challenge, exploring musicianship and theory, or sitting down with another artist for the podcast, the goal remains the same: to help musicians grow with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.
